Gauge Wheels are Critical to Seed Trench Formation 

The gauge wheel and the planter opener blades work together to form a well-defined seed furrow for consistent depth. The design of the gauge wheel tire creates a clearly distinct seed furrow by firming the soil on either side of the seed trench. The tire's lip helps create this firming action and minimizes soil build-up between the wheel and the blade. The semi-pneumatic rubber tire flexes to help shed soil and ensures a consistent depth.

Gauge wheels and gauge wheel tires are offered in three basic formats: 
Standard Width:  4.5" width gauge wheels found on most planters, grain drills and no-till air seeding tools. 
 
Narrow Width:  3" width gauge wheels found on some planters and seeding tools, usually to help facilitate narrow row configurations. 
 
Conservation:  Specialized gauge wheel with reduced inner profile (RIP) to aid in reducing sidewall compaction in heavy, wet, no-till conditions.  RIP wheels are not recommended in sandy or conventionally tilled soils.
